Adaptation:
For my adaptation I will be briefly describing the films conclusion and then begin on how other horror movies would have done it.
The end of the movie has Marty and Dana starting the purge inside of the facility. The purge button unleashes all of the monsters, leading to imminent death to the scientists. Marty and Dana wait for most of the monsters to leave the area before leaving the hiding spot. The pass a few slow moving zombies who are still feeding on some scientists and go into a crack in the wall leading to a stairway that goes down to the the giant ritual stones. An unnamed women appears and informs Dana and Marty that their deaths are inevitable and integral to everyone on earth living. The fool was set to die before the virgin, and Dana was gonna do it , she was gonna kill Marty. She shoots him, leaving him injured, that’s right when a werewolf attacks and the mystery woman is killed. She’s plunged to her death, right into the pit where you can see actual gods. Dana and Marty make the choice to not kill each other and wait for the world to be destroyed. The final scene ends with a giant flaming hand of a god shoots of of the ground, destroying the cabin and presumably the world, the movie ends before we see. If you weren’t able to tell, this isn’t like other movies. Nobody wins, not even the gods.
My Ending:
For my ending, I pick up right after Marty is shot, but he dies immediately and the werewolf kills the mystery woman, her death pays for the life of the virgin and the gods don’t destroy the earth. But a new problem arrives, Dana, the sole survivor, has to escape the facility with hundreds of monsters loose inside and possibly outside by the cabin. Dana only has a few bullets left and from what has been seen earlier in the movie, these monsters are very hard to kill, if they even die. Dana escape the grasps of the zombies, flying vampire bats and Fornicus, Lord of Bondage and Pain and hardly escapes the facility to the surface. But she isn’t safe yet, the force field is down since there is no one to maintain it with all the scientists dead, so she can finally escape, but so can any monster. She finds that monsters are now scattering through the woods and on path to nearby towns to unleash havoc. this is where the film ends. You are left with the thought of, she got to keep her life, but at what cost? The deaths of hundreds.
The problem with my new ending is that I’m trying to setup a sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies, but my ending turns it into something completely different, you probably couldn’t call it The Cabin in the Woods 2 because the cabin wouldn’t have any purpose other than being where the monsters come from. The sequel would have Dana trying to save the world again, this time destroying the monsters. She is guilt stricken as she know everything is partially her fault, she didn’t create the monsters, but she did release them. That guilt is her driving motive.
